Brief Description:  The naginata is a traditional Japanese pole weapon featuring a long wooden shaft topped with a curved, single-edged steel blade. Resembling a medieval European glaive or a Chinese guan dao, it provided samurai, warrior monks, and infantry with devastating reach and sweeping power against both foot soldiers and cavalry.

Key Anatomy:

Blade (Ha): A curved, razor-sharp steel blade typically measuring 30 to 60 cm. The curve allows for deep, slicing cuts as well as hooking, while still enabling precise thrusts.

Shaft (Ebu): Made of durable hardwood (like oak), usually an oval shape for a firm grip. The total length of the weapon ranged from 1.5 to 2.5 meters.

Fittings & Pommel: Often included a small circular handguard (tsuba) and a metal cap at the base (ishizuki) used to block strikes or deliver blunt blows.
