Brief Description:  A pixane is a protective mail collar worn around the neck and shoulders. Popular from the 14th to 16th centuries, it was often strapped directly over an armored shirt or combined with padding to defend vital throat and clavicle areas against slashes and thrusts.

Key Characteristics of a Pixane:

Design & Structure: A pixane is essentially a flexible ring of mail (chainmail) that hangs down to cover the upper chest, back, and shoulders.

The "Standard" Link: It is often referred to interchangeably as a standard. Unlike an aventail or camail (which is attached to a helmet), the upper collar section of a standard/pixane is designed to stand upright against the throat without needing external stiffening.

Modern Replicas: Today, historical replicas—like those offered on platforms such as Medieval Fight Club—often incorporate quilted and felt padding underneath the mail rings. This adds impact-absorbing defense and comfort when resting beneath heavier steel plates.
